An engineer and
a scientist walk into a bar...

While pursuing his BSc degree, Dewet van Rooyen discovered a passion for videography and began experimenting with it in his spare time. As his hobby grew, he eventually transitioned to a full-time career in film. In 2013, he wrote and directed his first short film, “Die Bach Motief”, and in 2014, he teamed up with Linsen Loots to establish Wyrd Films. 

Linsen started life as a mathematician and computer scientist – he won the South African Computer Olympiad as well as the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad and holds a Masters in Electronic Engineering. After a few years working in startups, however, he was eager to embark on more creative endeavours.

Together, Dewet and Linsen have written, directed, and produced a variety of critically acclaimed short films, a short-form scripted series for the Afrikaans website Netwerk24, and hundreds of episodes of lifestyle and reality TV for DStv.
